Well after a long stretch of the why's and why nots, I have teamed up with Bob Hanson from Electric Graffitti Multimedia in Salt Lake City Utah and we have finally started up Cube2 Media. This has been a long time coming, but we wanted to wait until just the right time, and now that time has hit us like a snowplow. We mainly build online web applications, but we do dynamic web site design as well. Most everything we build is done in rails framework, but not to forget JQuery, Javascript, and even SEO optimization. We have already launched a couple of client projects, the first is a stand alone all inclusive resort booking framework called ParadiseResortsNow, go check it out, they have some great deals if you are interested in vacationing in Mexico or the Dominican Republic. I could not believe the amenities these resorts had to offer until really getting a feel for them while building the site. The next project that is finishing up is called MoonwalkCardio This project entailed all of the dynamic design aspects, as well as all of the photography and video work as well. I think this client is onto something very ingenious within the heath communitiy as well as the medical community. Well until next time...click it!!

Had a lot of fun shooting John and Sherry's Wedding at Rainbow Gardens. I must say the nervous aspect never completely goes away when you are being paid for a photo shoot... You may get more comfortable with the concept, but for me at least, there is always a part of me that still has a bit of being nervous, but overall it probably helps me stay on top of my game... This footage was actually shot with my new JVC HD6 with a Pearstone 0.7x wide angle lens.....Hope you enjoy the HD video, my wife and coordinator shot alot of the footage while I caught the stills....

17" MACBOOK PRO & SNOW

Well apple never ceases to amaze me with the options available on the new line up of machines. This time was no different. I initially purchased the new 15" macbook pro which i thought was a smokin' machine. I have been using apple for about the past 4 years. I initially switched due to the instability in windows operating systems, sub standard browsers, and virus after virus. So in the realm of it all i went mac and purchased the original white intel macbook to give them a shot and wow i was floored at the stability, browser adherence and was so impressed i purchased a 20" imac for the office as well. Like I say I was so impressed with the new 15" laptop that I bought, I was curios what I was missing out on by not owning the 17" model...answer .......quite a bit...1920 screen resolution, dedicated 9600/512 switchable dedicated video card, and so much more.......Everyone always harps.."Mac's are so expensive".....well in my line of work you only get what you pay for......but the fact of the stability of the operating system, and the sheer speed and compatibility with web development software are built right in and standard.. Now with the release of Snow Leopard, they have really outdone themselves with this one.....it is not a complete re design of Leopard, but they have really enhanced on an excellent operating system that was in place. They listened to customers and developers about what they felt would help make the mac better and they have come up with the solution...Snow Leopard....So if you happen to walk by or stop by and see me standing in 17" of snow take a closer look and really see what you have been missing out on by staring at your windows..... BOARDING THE RAILS....

A Good friend and longtime web developer name Bob Hanson owner of Electric Graffitti, was the one who initially got me into web design way back when...I was amazed at the html and css languages and how they manipulated the pages that the end user sees on the internet. He always is a great honest critic of the sites that I build, but all along kept assuring me that the "Static Road" is all but becoming a thing of the past. All along Bob has been telling me that the new and exciting ride is on the Rails.....I thought to myself what is he talking about, dashboard web design is king!..and a king I was becoming........ Well after 2 grueling weeks so far of opening up Ruby on Rails books and diving into the divine world of Dynamic Application Web Design, I am truly amazed at what I have been missing out on, and the level of achievement that Bob has under his belt. It is a whole new world of scriptlets, models, controllers, but it all makes sense on the simplistic structure of how it comes together to build the application. To build a website in a non dashboard environment is a new one to me as well. Instead of just clicking a button and letting the software populate the codes and commands, you have to hand code everything! So in the new world of Terminals, MYSQL Databases, and Rake Commands, I guess I get lucky by having someone like Bob on my team....Thx Bob-O!

THE WONDERS OF THE DEEP

One place that is worth the visit while in Vegas is the Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay. They have everything from Komodo Dragons, Alligators, Sharks and tons of Marine Life I have never even seen before. The girls really got a kick out of the shark tunnels where all of the marine life goes over the top of you as you walk through a circular tunnel. They have a tank full of jelly fish, one full of star fish and even an open top tank with stingray's that you can reach in and touch..... One of the coolest fish were the piranha's...they seem so serene just quietly swimming around all innocent and such. Pictures are a little challenging to get due to the 6" thick glass, but if you get creative you can get some decent shots. I did find out that you can pay to dive the shipwreck for 2 hours for $650.00. Kinda pricey, but when would you ever get the chance to dive with sharks in a controlled situation. The only requirement is that your are a licensed diver, I think I will do this and take my gopro camera with me and get some really good footage....

The Hidden Wonders of Central California Coast......

Morro Bay California.....I have been to California many times and never bothered to indulge in the Central Coast.. I have been from Sandiego to North of Bodega Bay but a good friend has opened my eyes to the wonders that lie just East of Bakersfield..

He and his wife showed us the Central Coast in the coolest fashion, since they both grew up there, it was like having a personal tour guide so nothing went unseen. My wife and girls had the best time seeing all of it. We started at Pismo Beach and went all the way north to Seal Beach and Randy left no stone unturned with seeing all the cool stuff in between such as Cayucos Beach and pier, the quaint town of Cambria, Nitwitt Ridge, The Hearst Castle, and even the Piedra Blancas Lighthouse. We initially came in through the South up Through Pismo but took a different route home going through Paso Robles and eventually making our way to Cholame and getting to see something I have always wanted to see, the James Dean Memorial and Crash Site......Very cool for those of you who have not seen it...there is even an artist dedication of James at the Texaco Station at Highway 33 cutoff.....

These are just a few of the images i took along our "guided tour" of the area, I think i snapped about 500 or so shots.....whew, I took my D80 in lieu of my D300, and I really haven't shot alot with the 80 but I was suprised how easy it was to use and the quality of the images as well, "good call Joe", I'm glad i picked it up!!

THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF HD VIDEO

Finally found a great deal on a new Sony HD prosumer camcorder. It is a nice addition to the equipment list. All be the HVR HD 1000 an entry level pro camcorder, it shoots amazing video, has tons of features and more connections than anyone could possibly need, and a price tag that was amazingly more affordable than most small consumer hd camcorders. It features a wide screen touch screen for the menu system which makes certain adjustments a bit time consuming, but I have added an external view monitor which is definitely an excellent addition with viewing now being about 7 inches instead of 2.5. The shotgun mic has great sound pick up and with the add on Beachtek, remote mics are always a possibility if needed. This will be a great addition for the wedding & event portion of the business as well as commercial ad capabilities as well...

Well everywhere you look or tune into now is just more bad economic news which seems to all hold the phrase "It'll get worse before it gets better"......We are all hearing uncommon terms such as "billions" and "bailouts" but never hear "the little guy" or "small business america" ever mentioned when these terms are used. One guy has come up with a plan that will benefit all of us in "small world america" it is called the "JSA" or "Jump Start America Plan" that would benefit not only the little people, but the banking institutions and the Government entities as well...The beauty of this proposal is its simplicity and straightforwardness...Could it really be this simple? Many believe so including some politicians as well as banking officials that have read it. Two Days In New Mexico

Just got back from a quick trip to New Mexico over the holiday weekend. We actually drove to a small town called Truth or Consequences. This town sits halfway between Albuquerque and Las Cruces along I-25. This area is best known for its natural hot springs and the fact that they changed the name of the town from Hot Springs to Truth or Consequences in the '50s after the popular Ralph Edwards radios show of the same name. This area is also host to the largest lake in the state Elephant Butte and also adorns the curves of the mighty Rio Grande River which spirals its way through town.....The video above is just a few clips of our drivings around the wide open areas and small town atmosphere that the area has to offer, and I will be uploading some pictures of the trip as well, I wish I would have taken my Sony HD cam now, because the colors on the Canon are kind of bland.....but oh well......

WATER WORLD

Well with all that has been goin on lately, I decided to take advantage of the nice weather this weekend and go to the lake with my wife and my daughters. We started off riding our bikes around inside the park along the new biking trail and ended having lunch down at lake mead marina. There were quite a few people up at the two marinas for a sunday in off season, but we decided to look around. It has been quite a while since my daughters have been there, since we recently sold our jet boat and jet skiis, to see the massive amounts of bass and carp lurking around in the icy dark depths below the marinas, and the love of popcorn these fish have. They have only seen them from above but thanks to my new gopro camera, they got to see a different perspective, and I wanted to put the "waterproof" to the test anyhow, and see if it held true, which it did and we got some really neat footage to share. I guess it is every photographers goal to have a model that is so photogenic that it appears that no matter what you do in the shot set up it just all seems to be the right choice.... Having the opportunity to shoot Christina prior to the engagement shoot was such a pleasure....We tried a multitude of shot scenes but we did it all in one location.....We used multiple SB800's with umbrellas to soften the light and bounce cards for fill lighting..again we had the task of harsh afternoon sun, but Nikon pulled through for me again....Click on the image to view the set of shots...enjoy.....until next time......Oh and remember comments are welcome....

THE CROWE ENGAGEMENT

Well the long awaited photo shoot for the John Crowe and Christina Stevens finally took place over the past weekend. We decided to do an outdoor shoot at a few different locations. The only drawback was it was harsh sun afternoon........but I brought my trusty SB800's along for the task and I belive we were able to get the shots the clients were after.....we tried a few different setups with straight stobes to using blow through umbrellas, and even bounce discs......Well anyway congratulations to the new to be couple and I will be uploading pictures from the wedding and reception as well.........CLick on the picture to view the set.....until next time.....

My daughters thought it would be fun to shoot a quick video using that helmet cam I picked up at the SEMA show..and a little music courtesy of Nickelback (Dark Horse album set to be out on November 18th!!).......I tried it out mounting it on the tops of the RC cars but also have a little video input from a couple of other cameras views as well!!! In the first truck scene it actually flips over onto the camera, but the GOPRO is in a really tough enclosure... the last scene ends up with a crash as well... Enjoy.....

Well another year has come around and this years SEMA show is one of the best ever. There are so many new items for the automotive industry, it takes up the whole convention center inside and out. There is even a whole convention hall dedicated to just tires and wheels, and it would take you all day just to see them!!!....This is actually my first SEMA show that I was able to attend thanks to Randy....(thanks RD)..I had no idea that this convention was this massive, and even with the country on the verge of a massive recession, you really could not tell by the amount of Vendors and Buyers at the show. The "Big Three" auto makers had very large and very cool displays of the "Now" and "What's To Come Conceptuals", but personally I think the 2010 Camaro will be the biggest hit to the "Retro" automotive sector yet. I'm not saying that the new Challenger or Mustang are not able to hold their own, but I've always been know to have worn a bowtie............... I did spend all day in the Accessories and Perfomance halls, and did not even see all of that section, so if you don't have a 3 or 4 day pass, figure out what you would like to see, because jogging is not an option..... Almost all of the pictures in this set are from the A & P section of the show. And Yes, for those that are curious, I did actually make a purchase (business related of course), while I was there, of a very cool action and underwater camera to add to the photography case. It is from a company called Go Pro Cameras, if you have not heard of them then go check em out!! There cameras are very high quality right out of the box, and requires no post editing other than a little stitching if you have mulitiple movies, and the best, I mean the "BEST" thing is they are MAC compatible right out of the box, Yeah!!!!......and yes I will be uploading some of the cool videos and features here soon.........Until next time!!!!!

Well the "fright" season is upon us and another Boulder City Swim Team Carnival has come and gone thanks to Carol for setting it all up and for all of the parents and participants that helped. Even with the ever dwindling economy, there appeared to be an excellent turnout overall. There were a few added items this year, such as the popcorn machine and the "stuff a bear" attraction which seemed to be the hot item of the night, but let us not forget the haunted house attraction, which seemed to be the cause of a few terrified faces coming out of the exit door. As far as costumes go, iI would have to say the little Dorothy Costume complete with the red shoes stole everyones vote.........until next year then....have a scary night tonight!

SMALL TOWN FRIDAY NIGHT..

Small towns have always been know for their dedication to football....with such movies like Varsity Blues & Friday Night Lights, they have really shown the true meaning of what it means to be a part of a small town community and support the local team...You could pretty much drive down main street in any small town in America on a Friday night and see absolutely no one and virtually no business' open. Boulder City Nevada is just such a town, this place reminds me of the small town in New Mexico I grew up in called Lovington, where everyone who wasn't playing, coaching, or watching the game was helping in some sort of fashion from cooking food, shooting videos of the game, taking pictures for the paper, keeping score or announcing the game over the local radio station, and they all do if for free......Most large cities and metro areas don't have the "small town spirit" that you will find in places like boulder city, with their metal detectors and police force patrols, most people would rather not even take the chance on going to the games anymore. Living in a small town has its advantages, but most people will never know what they are because they have never experienced what it is like to be "part of a team", and I think that is exactly what it is when you live in a small town and support the community, is being part of the team!

A YEAR IN THE LIFE OF A QUARTER SCALE!!!!

Well another season is almost over for the quarter scale race cars, trucks, buggies, & off road stadium trucks....at the Boulder City Speedway...If you have never been to one these races it is definitely a must see...you would almost swear you were at a real race, I mean these cars fly around the asphalt like Mark Martin on a Sunday. The track is complete with banked turns and lit night races that are extremely awesome to watch with the added excitement of crashes, burn-outs and just about every exciting aspect which makes real Nascar what it is.. This was my first chance at seeing the off road series trucks at the track, we got there late but managed to get off a few shots in the last heat..the off road series trucks are going to be running another race on November 22nd, but the track will be completely reconfigured for the national event....So if you are looking for something to do that is out of the ordinary, come out and see this exciting event, and bring your appetite because you will not want to miss out on one of the "world famous" concession burgers with all the fixins..........Click Here if you are interested and need directions....

THE COLORS OF THE AIR SHOW!

Boulder City may be a small town, but for the findings of pristine antique aircraft they can't be reckoned with. There were so many types of airplanes on display at the BC Airshow over the weekend it was hard to pick a favorite. They had everything from pre WWII to the most advanced experimental air craft. It appears the main goal of the show was to find a renewed interest in aviation which has fallen of drastically over the past decade, and with fuel prices what they are, it makes it tougher for the individual pilots to fly as much as they use to. It was great to see so many people that are still interested in aviation which resulted in a really good turnout overall. There were companies that were offering free rides, motorized glider rides, helicopter rides as well as tandem parachute jumps....(not for the faint of heart)..There was an original Russian Experimental Mig as well as Military Medic helicopters and some very cool bi-plane and acrobatic planes as well....as far as photography goes, the sky could not have been more cooperative with the explosive colors and clouds which gave birth to some dramatic color effects overall.......if you missed this air show, you should set your calendar to be sure and catch the next one.......great food, small crowd, and plenty to do and see......

THE ANGLES AND EMBLEMS SHOOT

I decided to take a different approach to the car show this year. Instead of trying to fight the crowds and have tons of pictures with people in the foreground and background, i thought i would show a different side by shooting the emblems and the angles that everyone really loves about these cars in the first place. It still amazes me how these cars were initially designed and constructed with so many lines and stylish features and all being made out of steel. Don't get me wrong I do know how to appreciate a nice murcielago or new Aston Martin, but the older cars still by far have more style and originality by far.

The Launch of Katchum Alarm Systems!!!!!

Well Katchum is finally a realization, we have devised a way to put a damper on all of the air conditioning copper theft problems here in the valley and nationwide for that matter. Our system will detect the instant that the perpetrator tampers with the air conditioner system lines, and a sensor will send a signal to a control panel which in turn will dial your personal phone number or pager, or can be routed to our alarm call center. This system is a one of a kind alarm system unlike no other which also has the capability of not only saving you thousands on theft costs, but also can alarm you in the instance of a refrigerant loss which can save you money on the ever rising costs of freon gas as well as the cost of a new compressor which we all know that the leading cause of compressor failure is low refrigerant levels.....We all take for granted that the "cold box" on our roof will run for ever without fail, but with the rising costs of copper, theft is at an all time high from your personal air conditioner, cell towers, job site water lines....etc.....We also have a water damage protection system that in the event of a water line leak inside your home, a signal is sent to a valve on the water main which will turn off the water to the house and dial your phone number and let you know of the problem..This is great for your primary residence while you are at work, but it is also an excellent concept for your vacation home as well!! ZION UTAH............................

Finally had the time to take the family to Zion Utah over the labor day weekend. I can't believe I have lived here as long as I have and never been to this place...It is by far a photographers' dream. The weather was pretty overcast and rainy most of the trip, so we waited out the fog and the rain and went into the park around noon, which worked out perfect because when we got ready to leave, the sun showed up towards the evening and really brought out the "colors of Zion" that I had been hearing so much about. We ended up not tent camping because it was a last minute planning, so we stayed at Zion Ponderosa. This place is amazing in its own right. Theoretically you would never have to leave the ranch. They have everything from atv rentals, rock climbing, zip lines, archery, tours,..........and the list goes on and on......they will even setup a shuttle to take you into Zion so you don't even have to drive. For any of you that have not made the short 3 hr +/- trip I suggest that you do, you could spend a full week in the park and never see it all and trust me pictures don't do it justice!!!!!!! The Descending Bear of Weeping Rock.....

If you look really close you can see the bear descending downward onto the base of weeping rock....Some people see an old man.........I see both but I will leave an age old debate alone and let you decide what it is......

The Girls on Slick Rock...........

Well my youngest is the fearless of the bunch as you can barely see her up on the highest edge of slick rock. She would have gone all the way up if it wasn't for time constraints......but then when you are 8 what does that mean anyhow.......

Dead Mans Curve......

Dually named for its jagged rocks along the curved road. If braking does not occur in time, there is not much room for recovery. I shot this with gradient sepia and warming filters. I found it fitting to the shot.

Into The Abyss.......

With the weather snapping at us all weekend, i found this name to be fitting. It seemed no matter where we went or what corner we turned down, this was the sky scene that played a big part of our excursion.
